![]() IntroductionWell I a little late getting the garden on the web. But better late then never. I'll try to keep the page updated for the rest of the growing season. Garden Progress.July 9Over the past week daytime temperatures have been below average. Only in the upper 70s to lower 80s. We should be in the mid 80s to low 90s. The cooler weather has slowed down plant growth. This is good since I have some chores to do before the plants get to big. Bell peppers in July I'm told bell peppers are hard to grow here. Most people don't get peppers as big as ours. Our daytime highs are in the mid 80s to low 100s. That is great for peppers. But the night time lows are in the 50s. Not so good for peppers. We grow in raised beds and it looks like that helps with pepper growth. Still waiting for toms to ripen July 11We were awoken by two claps of thunder. Ah, a rare summer rain. Rain water for the garden. What a treat. Very localized. I would say 0.25 inch to 0.5 inch. July 23Our wait is over. We are harvesting. The tomatoes are so heavy that they have fallen over. I may have to stake and tie them up. The garden is turning into a forest. The pepper bed is filling in nicely. The trellis is filling up July 30One of our harvests. We have to pick at least every other day. We have been picking every day. Aug 1The garden is doing great. One tomato bed shows the signs of the heat wave we had. Waiting for the water melon to ripen. Also Waiting for the cantaloupe to ripen. They'll be 2 to 3lbs. The trellis is filling up with cantaloupe. The yellow squash is producing more than we can eat. The pepper bed is coming along. The toms are having a hard time. I didn't water consistently enough through the heat wave. I should have tied them up a lot sooner. The weight of the fruit has caused the plants to bend over and break some branches. Comments |
